Leonard Henry Schepers

May 10, 1924 - August 16, 2013

Leonard Henry Schepers, the son of Joseph H. and Regina P. (Wieberg) Schepers was born May 10, 1924 at Argyle, Missouri. He passed away on Friday, August 16, 2013 at the Red Oak Good Samaritan Society, Red Oak, Iowa at the age of 89 years, 3 months and 6 days.

Leonard was raised on a farm near Meta, Missouri. He entered the U. S. Navy on October 25, 1944, serving during WWII and was honorably discharged on June l5, l946. Following his discharge from the Navy, he visited a Navy buddy living around the Cumberland area and decided to move to Iowa to begin farming. He was united in marriage to Veronica “Bonnie” Rebecca Cullen on February 14, l949 in Reno, Iowa. They farmed near Corning, Iowa and later Villisca, Iowa until his farm sale in 1967. Leonard and Bonnie moved to Odebolt, Iowa where he worked for several years at the Lakin Ranch. He then had an opportunity to be a farm assistant near Holstein, Iowa working there until 1978. At this time, Leonard and Bonnie moved near Red Oak, where he worked for the Flying A Ranch for 15 years. In 1993, Leonard retired and he moved into Red Oak after Bonnie’s passing. Leonard enjoyed gardening, reading and fishing. He also enjoyed the Lawrence Welk Show, listening to Polka music and kept current on livestock auctions by watching RFD TV. Leonard was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Red Oak and V.F.W. Post #8045 of Argyle, MO.

Leonard was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Bonnie on October 12, l993; brothers: Edwin “Pete” Schepers and Joseph “Bud” Schepers; sisters: Dorothy Verhoff, Veronica “Ronnie” Escue and Rose Leach; and granddaughter, Carrie Wadsley.

Leonard is survived by six children: Teresa (Wayne) Sullenberger of Cedaredge, CO; Marcia (Randy) Reeves of Cherokee, IA; Angie (Al) Wadsley of Alta, IA; Marilyn (Kelvin) Wenberg of Stanton, IA; Carolyn Schepers and companion Victor Janvrin of Broomfield, CO; and John Schepers and fiancé Mary Beth Heimbush of Brighton, CO; 12 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and sister, Marie Duncan of Hermann, MO; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Mass of Christian Burial will be
Thursday, August 22, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Red Oak.
Burial in Evergreen Cemetery, Red Oak.
Father Tom Kunnel, Officiating

Wake Service will be held Wednesday evening at 7:00 p.m. with visitation to follow until 8:30 p.m. at Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home

Memorials to Montgomery County Memorial Hospital Foundation.
