Adam Burton Wollenhaupt, the son of George and Neva Wollenhaupt, was born January 8, 1924 in Cumberland, Iowa. He passed away on Saturday, August 13, 2005 at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital in Red Oak, Iowa at the age of 81 years, 7 months and 5 days. Adam spent his early years in Yorktown and Gravity, attending his first five years of school at Clarinda. In 1936, he moved with his parents to Elliott. Adam graduated from Elliott High School in l943 and entered the U. S. Army, serving during WW II. Adam was united in marriage to Luella Steiber in l948. Adam worked at the Elliott Hardware Store, and then became a painter for 23 years. Adam was later employed and worked for Oakview Construction of Red Oak for 20 years. Adam was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Luella on March 1, 1980; 2 sisters and a brother. Adam is survived by three sons: Lee Wollenhaupt and wife Linda of Red Oak, IA; Rodger Wollenhaupt and wife Kris of Red Oak, IA; and Bill Wollenhaupt and wife Wendy of Red Oak, IA; 6 granddaughters: Leanne Samuelson and husband Mike, Laura Schmitz and husband Todd, Christina Marston and husband Derek, Neoma Wollenhaupt, Amanda Wells and husband Levi, and Emily Wollenhaupt; 4 great-grandchildren: Jacob Samuelson, Clara & Zachary Schmitz and Riley Wells; 5 step-grandchildren: Ryan Atkinson and wife Angela, Tracy Johnson and husband Shane, Sherri Weil, and Craig Woods and wife Kenna; 8 step-great-grandchildren: Brendan Atkinson, Kylee, Madalyn and Carston Johnson, Trevor, Jeffrey and Kristie Weil, Maia and Braden Woods; sister-in-law, Mrs. Myrtle Wollenhaupt of Wapello, IA, nieces and nephews; other relatives and a host of friends.
