Obituary

Alice Jeanette Weseen, the daughter of Edward and Selina Anderson Weseen was born October 31, 1922 in Stanton, Iowa. She passed away on Saturday, August 30, 2008 at the Griswold Care Center, Griswold, Iowa at the age of 85 years, 9 months and 30 days. Alice was raised in Stanton, Iowa. She was confirmed at Mamrelund Lutheran Church on June 13, 1937. In 1941, Alice graduated from Stanton High School at the top of her class as valedictorian. She continued on with her education, graduating from Business College at Rock Island, Illinois. Alice began working for the Rock Island Arsenal. In 1946, she moved to Omaha, Nebraska where she went to work as an accountant for Burlington Railroad. Alice was transferred to Lincoln, Nebraska in 1977. She retired from the railroad after 40 years of service. Following retirement, she moved back to Omaha, NE. Alice moved to Red Oak in 2002 where she lived at Arlington Place and Regency Retirement. On March 1, 2008 she moved to Fox Run Assisted Living in Council Bluffs, IA. Alice was a member of the National Association of Railroad Business Women of Omaha, NE and was a 50-year member of Beta Sigma Phi. She enjoyed photography, taking pictures of her family and friends. She enjoyed staying in touch with loved ones and was faithful at sending birthday and Christmas cards. Alice was always cheerful, an inspiration to everyone and never complained of her physical disability. Alice was preceded in death by her parents; sisters: Eunice Weseen and Lillian Benskin Lewis; brothers-in-law: Floyd Benskin, Lawrence Lewis and Donald Bates; niece, Shirley Gerdes; and nephew, Gary Bates. Alice is survived by her sister, Elsie Bates of Griswold, IA; nieces: Sharon Goldsmith and husband Kent of Marion, IA; Barbara Schroeder and husband Ron of Griswold, IA; and Joanne Vogliardo and husband Mike of Polk City, IA; nephews: Don Benskin and wife Betty of Omaha, NE; Dennis Benskin and wife Diane of Boise, ID; Jerry Bates and wife Diane of Grant, IA; and Jim Bates and wife Sandra of Stanton, IA; many great-nieces and nephews; great-great-nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends. May God bless her memory and give strength to those who mourn. Funeral Service will be held Wednesday, September 3, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. at Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home, Red Oak Burial in Mamre Cemetery, Stanton Rev. Terry McClain, Officiating Visitation with the family present one hour prior to the funeral service on Wednesday, September 3 at Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home. Memorials to the Swedish Heritage & Cultural Center of Stanton, Iowa or Post Polio Syndrome Research. Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
