Obituary

Allen Alvin Hart was born August 19, 1930, in Page County, Iowa, to Alvin and Anna (Monson) Hart. He passed away on Friday, September 22, 2023, at the Good Samaritan Society, Red Oak, Iowa, where he had been a resident for the past nine months, at the age of 93 years, 1 month and 3 days.

Allen attended Maple Hill Country School, then Essex High School until he lost his left hand in a farming accident at the age of 17. This event fostered a determination to do "anything anyone else can do." Allen worked in farming, trucking, and bulldozing as a young man. On June 2, 1951, he married Alice Mae Palmquist in Stanton, and they had two children: Karol and David. Alice passed away on September 18, 1954. Allen married Ida Louise Palmquist on February 11, 1956, in Stanton, and they had a son, Rodney. Allen and Louise were married 62 years, when Louise died on March 3, 2018. They had farmed in the Essex area until 1964 when they purchased their farm northeast of Stanton. Allen also operated a bulldozer until he turned 90. He farmed with his sons, Dave and Rod, until he and Louise built the Stanton Care Center in 1978. Allen was the administrator and Louise was director of nurses. They were proud of the home-like atmosphere afforded the residents. They operated the care center until they sold it in 1993. Allen was a member of Faith Community Church in Red Oak, where he enjoyed greeting and making new friends. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren held a special place in his heart.

Allen was preceded in death by his parents; both wives; brothers: Marvin (Aletha) Hart, Kenneth (Katherine) Hart and Milton Hart; sister, Myrtle (Don) Cerven; and sister-in-law, Patricia Hart; also preceding him were his brothers-in-law: Wendell (LaVonne) Palmquist, Ralph Palmquist and Darrell Davis; and sisters-in-law: Frances (Clarence) Berglund and Bernice (Robert) Cerven.

Allen is survived by his daughter, Karol Johnson and husband Richard; sons: David Hart and wife Cathy, Rodney Hart and wife Janean, all of Stanton, IA; grandchildren: Chris (Casey) Johnson of Red Oak, Brenda (JB Dixon) Johnson of North Liberty, Kent (Amber) Johnson of Winterset, Jenna Hart (Kyle) Ramsey of Stanton, Jason (Katie) Hart of Stanton, Ryan (Stacy) Hart of Stanton, Brianne (John) Barghusen of Spirit Lake; great-grandchildren: Brady (Sylwia) Johnson, Drake, Carter and Marleigh Johnson, Denton Roberts, Charlie and Kara Steenhoek, Emery and Beckett Johnson, Madison, Reed and Grace Ramsey, Kyla, Brett and Brody Hart, Peyton, Ava, and Rylee Hart, and Jake Barghusen; brother, Curtis (Kitty) Hart of Bellevue, NE; and sisters-in-law: Beverly Palmquist of Stanton, Mary Haubold of Topeka, KS, Carolyn Davis of Stanton, and Kathryn (Paul) Lass of Des Moines, IA; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

May God bless his memory and give strength to those who mourn.
