Anna Marie Cleland, the daughter of John H. and Edna E. (McFarland) Damewood, was born September 24, 1931, in Adams County, Iowa. She passed away on Tuesday, August 12, 2025, at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital, Red Oak, Iowa, at the age of 93 years, 10 months, and 19 days.
Anna Marie was raised in Adams County, Iowa. The family had lived in Red Oak, Atlantic, and Avoca, before returning to Red Oak in 1946. On February 9, 1947, Anna Marie was united in marriage to Clarence "Rip" Cleland, in Red Oak. Over her career, Anna Marie worked at the egg plant in Malvern, Iowa, and J.D. Café, before devoting a 32-year career to Union Carbide Battery Company, before retiring. In retirement, Anna Marie continued staying active by working in the dietary department at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital, and at Casey's, in the kitchen. Anna Marie enjoyed crocheting, and playing cards, but her favorite game was Farkle, a lively dice game she loved to play with family and friends. Anna Marie was also a talented cook and baker. Together, she and Rip shared a fondness for camping, fishing, and traveling. For many years, Anna Marie was a faithful attendee of Hawthorne Church. Above all, she loved her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, who held a special place in her heart.
Anna Marie was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Rip Cleland on June 2, 1992; sisters: Elnora Josephson, Sharlene Burg, Opal Pierce and Dorothy Bruce; brothers: Duane Damewood, John Damewood, Ronnie Clark and Donnie Clark; and son-in-law, Steve Roberts.
Anna Marie is survived by her three children: Steve (Bev) Cleland of Red Oak, IA, Deborah (Harry) Myers of Shenandoah, IA, and Kathy (Brian) O'Connell of Smithland, IA; 15 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren, 10 great-great-grandchildren; and brother, Jack (Shirley) Clark of Amarillo, TX; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Funeral Service will be held Monday, August 18, 2025, at 10:30 a.m. at Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home, Red Oak.
Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Red Oak.
Visitation with the family will be held on Sunday, August 17, 2025, at Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m.
Memorials may be directed to the American Cancer Society or St. Jude's Children Hospital.
