Obituary

Barbara Betty Lintner was born January 12, 1929 in Macedonia, Iowa to Vernon and Gertrude (Long) Plumb. She grew up in rural Macedonia with her older brother, Richard, and where her parents farmed and raised cattle. Barb enjoyed spending time with her grandparents, aunts, uncles, and many cousins. Barb's parents later farmed near Red Oak, Iowa, where she graduated from Red Oak High School in 1946. On August 19, 1950, Barb married Richard Westall Lintner. They made their home together in Omaha, Nebraska for eighteen years. While in Omaha, Barb enjoyed entertaining friends and traveling tours with fellow Corvette Club enthusiasts. Barb pursued a career and worked at Omaha National Bank for 31 years, serving as a Student Loan Officer. Barb eventually returned to Red Oak, which she always considered home. After retirement, Barb stayed active, working locally for the Red Coach Inn and Restaurant as a part-time bookkeeper. Barb's interests included playing golf and participated in many charity tournaments. She loved baking and candy making and was always excited to try new recipes. Barb was especially proud of her lemon custard ice cream recipe which received rave reviews from family. Barb crocheted beautifully and made many afghans. In addition, Barb enjoyed cross-word puzzles, family history and collecting clocks. Perhaps most important in Barb's life, aside from her family and friends, were her beloved dogs. Barb doted on her babies, Pepper, Herbie, and Scooter. They, in return, loved her very much. Barb developed a very special interest for North American Wolves and was an avid supporter of their conservation. Barb was a long-time member of the organization, Defenders of Wildlife, and expressed her concern for their protection. Barb's interest was evident in her vast collection of wolf-based items with which she surrounded herself. She was especially excited in 2007, to be visited in the care center by and animal handler who brought in two wolf pups which Barb held and cuddled. Barb was known for her candor and wit. She was a devoted daughter, sister and aunt. Later in life when her brother became ill, she regularly traveled a great distance to spend time with him and be by his side. Often, she made him her homemade ice cream as a special treat. Barb passed away on July 10, 2013 at the Good Samaritan Society in Red Oak, Iowa, at the age of 84 years. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Richard Plumb; sister-in-law, Lois Plumb; and nephew, Curtis Plumb. Barb is survived by her two nieces: Marcia Martin and her husband, Dennis, of Salem, Oregon; and Val Kilmer and her husband, Chris, of Dawson, Iowa; three great nieces: Erin Bradley and Emily Martin of Portland, Oregon; Ashley Martin and her friend, Kary Haglan of Estherville, Iowa; one great nephew, Matthew Martin of Adel, Iowa; and devoted friend, Pat Rea of Red Oak, Iowa.
