Barbara J. Schantz, the daughter of Raymond and Virginia Combs Holmberg was born August 16, 1939 in Red Oak, Iowa. She died on Wednesday, August 1, 2007 at the Hospice Kavanaugh House in Des Moines, Iowa from lung cancer at the age of 67 years, 11 months and 16 days. Most of Barbara?s life was lived in Red Oak. Throughout her working career, she was employed at Red Oak Coast to Coast Store, Pamida, D & L and Hawkeye Ford. Barbara was proud of her girls and enjoyed attending their school and sporting events. She loved baking; her cinnamon rolls and cookies were ?the best?. She also spent time making crafts, reading, talking with friends and visiting her children and grandchildren. She will be greatly missed by everyone who knew her! Barb was preceded in death by her parents, Raymond and Virginia Holmberg. Barbara is survived by four daughters: Julie Wood and husband Jeff of Tempe, AZ; Kristi Freese of Norfolk, NE; Jacque Petersen and husband Kevin of Mason City, IA; Jennifer Mellott and husband Jeff of Urbandale, IA; six grandchildren: Adam Freese, Jenny Freese, Ashley Petersen, Bradley Petersen, Sara Wood and Jacob Mellott; brother: James Holmberg and wife Dorothy of Wisconsin; sister: Jacqueline Thrapp and husband Ernie of Michigan; nieces, nephews, many other loving family members and friends. Memorial Visitation will be held on Friday evening, August 10, 2007 from 6:00 p.m to 9:00 p.m. at Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
