Bertha Sederburg, the daughter of Conrad and Susan Grasmick Ross was born July 17, 1910 in Red Oak, Iowa. She passed away on Friday, November 16, 2012 at the Stanton Care Center, Stanton, Iowa at the age of 102 years, 3 months and 30 days. Bertha was raised along with ten brothers and sisters in and near Red Oak. Bertha was united in marriage to Edward R. Sederburg on July 6, 1927 in Red Oak. They spent the first 12 years of their married life farming in Montgomery County. In 1939, the family moved to a farm north of Clarinda and in 1947, moved to a farm north of Bethesda. Bertha was an avid reader and completed many handwork projects. She loved quilting, making over 500 quilt tops with the ladies aide for church. Bertha also, made many quilts and afghans for her family. She was a member of the Bethesda Lutheran Church, serving as Sunday school teacher and past president of the WELCA. During their farming years, she was a 4-H leader and member of Farm Bureau. Bertha became a resident of Stanton Care Center in December of 2000. Bertha was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Edward on May 13, 1980; daughter, Lois Wallin and husband Dale; seven brothers: Edward, John, Conrad, Sander, Ralph, Harry and William; 3 sisters: Kathryn Winn, Marie Gilleland and Mollie Klott; son-in-law, LaVern Patterson; grandson, Terry Sederburg; and a great-granddaughter, Danielle Wallin. Bertha is survived by two children: Wayne Sederburg and wife Rogene of Essex, IA; and Mrs. Karen Patterson of Essex, IA; 8 grandchildren: Gene Mary Lou Wallin of Houston, TX; Paul Sue Wallin of Wasilla, AK; Mark Wallin of Ft. Madison, IA; Greg Jolene Wallin of Bethesda, IA; Dwight Sederburg of Villisca, IA; Kirk Angela Sederburg of De Forest, WI; Jeff Teresa Patterson of Ankeny, IA; and Diana Patterson of Essex, IA; 13 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. Funeral Service will be held Tuesday, November 20, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. at the Bethesda Lutheran Church, Bethesda Burial in the Bethesda Cemetery Rev Jerry Lamb, Officiating Visitation with the family present Monday evening from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. at Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home Memorials to the Bethesda Lutheran Church or Stanton Care Center.
