Betty Ann Vander Hart Benskin, the daughter of Godart G. and Ruby C. Neuschwanger Vander Hart, was born December 25, 1935 in Pella, IA. She died on Thursday, December 13, 2007 at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital in Red Oak, IA at the age of 71 years, 11 months and 18 days. Betty was raised on a farm near Pella and attended country school. She graduated from Pella High School in 1953. Following graduation she worked for Maytag Cooperation in the accounting department in Newton, IA. Betty was united in marriage to Glen L. Benskin on February 8, 1959 in Newton, IA. They made their home on a farm north of Stanton until they moved into Stanton in 2004. Betty was a homemaker and for 20 years was a cook at Red Oak High School. Betty enjoyed cooking, sewing, watching sporting events, especially ones her grandchildren were playing in, camping, traveling, and working with ACS Relay For Life, serving as 2006 Co-Chair with husband, Glen. She was a member of Mamrelund Lutheran Church, WELCA, Faith Rebekah Lodge, as a past Grand, Order of the Eastern Star, as a past Matron; Carefree Campers Club, and Stitch and Chatter Club. Betty was preceded in death by parents and sister, Ruby Mae Pope. Betty is survived by husband, Glen Benskin of Stanton, IA; three daughters: Debra Shields and husband Frank of Cape May, NJ; Barb Lewellen and husband Randy of Stanton, IA; and Cheryl Benskin of Stanton, IA; grandchildren: Gary Honeyman and wife Tiffany of Omaha, NE; Audra Honeyman of Maryville, MO; Scott Honeyman of Maryville, MO; Landon Lewellen and Cameron Lewellen of Stanton, IA; step-grandchildren: Seth Shields of Madison, WI; Tyler Shields of Clarinda, IA; and Jessie Shields of Clarinda, IA; sisters: Nancy Hacker and husband Jerry of Prescott Valley, AZ; and Bertha Brooks and husband Ed of Melbourne, FL; brother, Richard Vander Hart and wife Rita of Milwaukee, WI; nieces, nephews, cousins and many wonderful friends.
