Betty JoAnn Brackhahn, the daughter of Alonzo W. and Doris Mertz Roof was born March 21, 1935 in Red Oak, Iowa. She passed away on Tuesday, January 31, 2012 at Methodist Hospital, Omaha, Nebraska at the age of 76 years, 10 months and 10 days. Betty was raised in Red Oak and attended Red Oak High School. She lived in New Market before moving back to Red Oak where she was a waitress and cook for several restaurants. She moved to Omaha where she and her companion Robert D. Brackhahn operated an area gas station. In 1976, they made their home in Red Oak. In 1989, Betty and Robert were united in marriage in Omaha, Nebraska. Betty enjoyed making crafts, gardening and taking vacations with Robert on their motorcycle to California and Kentucky. Betty was preceded in death by her parents, brother Donald Roof, and sister Charlotte Bake. Betty is survived by her husband Robert Brackhahn of Red Oak, IA; daughter Cheryl Hensley of Omaha, NE along with her children: Andrea, Travis and Joshua Hensley; son Dennis Roof and wife Marilyn of Omaha, NE and their daughter Laura Roof; 4 great-grandchildren: Timothy, Tyler, Madison and Michael Hensley; brothers and sister: William Roof of Sidney, IA, Frank & Betty Roof of Red Oak, IA, Marion & Linda Roof of Tabor, IA, Robert Roof of Sidney, IA, Eugene & Linda Roof of Florida, Charles Roof of Red Oak, IA and Anna May Gould of Red Oak, IA; many nieces, nephews along with other relatives and friends. Memorial Graveside Service will be held Friday, February 3, 2012 at 11:30 a.m. at Brighton Cemetery, Marne, Iowa Rev. Dr. George Hooper, Officiating Family and friends may gather at Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home on Friday morning, February 3 at 10:00 a.m. for procession to the cemetery.
