Betty Jane Hurt Shaw, the daughter of James and Jessie (Gilmore) McCracken was born July 4, 1925 near St. Paul, Nebraska. She passed away on Thursday, October 26, 2017 at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital, Red Oak, Iowa at the age of 92 years, 3 months and 22 days.
Betty was raised near St. Paul, Nebraska, and graduated from St. Paul High School. She was united in marriage to Daniel Hurt on September 1, 1944. After WW II, Betty and Daniel moved to rural Council Bluffs, Iowa. Daniel died on December 27, 1969 and Betty was united in marriage to Paul Shaw on September 14, 1970. They lived at Hastings, Iowa until 1975 when they moved to a farm near Red Oak. Betty was a homemaker and helped Paul during spring planting and fall harvest. Betty and Paul enjoyed spending 18 winters in Arizona. Betty continued to live on the farm after Paul's death on November 3, 2008.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands; grandson, Rob Hurt; sister, Alice Youngclaus and three brothers: Dale, Ivan and Earl.
Betty is survived by five children: Dineal Olsen and Charles of Omaha, NE, Jerry Hurt and Linda of Plattsburg, MO, Randall Hurt and Debra of Hannibal, MO, Dwaine Hurt and Glenda of Red Oak, IA and Dale Hurt of Kansas City, MO; 11 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

A private family service will be held.
Memorials may be directed to the Red Oak Fire & Rescue Association.
