Obituary

Betty was born Nov. 15, 1930, in Red Oak, to Ray and Fern (Pehrson) Gammell. Raised in Montgomery County, she was valedictorian of the Wales-Lincoln class of 1948 and was a member of the 1948 girls basketball team that went to the state tournament, losing in the first round by just one point to the team that went on to win the championship.

Betty attended business school in Omaha and after graduation was employed as secretary and treasurer of the Montgomery County A.S.C. office in Red Oak. She married Kieffer Ross Lehman Feb. 5, 1955, at the Stratton Methodist Church and moved to Columbia, Mo. where he was a student at the University of Missouri. Betty was a stay-at-home wife and mother like so many of her generation and her house was where all the other neighbor kids loved to hang out. Betty made everyone feel welcome and with her husband Kieffer she traveled the world making friends wherever she went. She will be greatly missed.

She is survived by her loving husband, Kieffer Ross Lehman, of 58 years; their children, Debra Calkins, Angela Humphrey, Jim Lehman, Dee Ann Clopton and Wendy Cabrera, all of California, and their families; a sister, Ardith Cornelison of Red Oak; and a brother, Eldon Gammell of Creston.

May God bless her memory and give strength to those who mourn.
