Betty Ann Souders, the daughter of John L. and Dorothy (Breese) Henry was born September 10, 1923 in Red Oak, Iowa. She passed away on Friday, June 7, 2013 at the Red Oak Healthcare Community, Red Oak, Iowa at the age of 89 years, 8 months and 28 days. Betty was raised in Red Oak and baptized at the First Christian Church. She graduated from Red Oak High School in l940. Betty was united in marriage to Harry Carlson in the 1940's. They lived in Iowa City, Iowa and for several years in Rome, New York. Following Harry's death, Betty moved back to Red Oak. Betty worked for the Murphy Calendar Company. On June 8, 1972, Betty was united in marriage to Russell L. Souders in Red Oak. She enjoyed gardening, knitting, was an excellent whistler and an avid reader. Betty loved the day drives she and Russell would take, which always included roadside picnics. Betty was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Harry; and second husband, Russell on October 9, l999. Betty is survived by her son, Thomas Carlson of SD; step-children: Dennis Souders of Boise, ID, Ronald Souders of McKinney, TX and Diane Garber of North Bend, OR; nephew, Kirk Elwood and wife Joleen of Red Oak, IA; and longtime friend, Laura Olson of Red Oak, IA; other relatives and friends. May God bless her memory and give strength to those who mourn. Graveside Service will be held Monday, June 10, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at Evergreen Cemetery, Red Oak.
