Betty Lou Treat, the daughter of Wayne and Mildred (Howery) Blackburn, was born September 22, 1940, in Shenandoah, Iowa. She passed away on Saturday, September 26, 2026, at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital, Red Oak, Iowa, at the age of 86 years and 4 days.

Betty was raised on a farm near Norwich, Iowa, and graduated from Shenandoah High School in 1958. On July 13, 1958, Betty was united in marriage to Gary L. Treat in Shenandoah, Iowa. They lived in Shenandoah before moving to California and making it home for two years. Betty and Gary returned to Shenandoah and in 1970, moved to Leon, Iowa. In 1974, when Gary was promoted to store director of the Red Oak Hy-Vee store, they made Red Oak their home. For a short time, Betty worked for Union Carbide Battery Company and later, for a few years, with Hy-Vee. Betty and Gary treasured the many years they wintered in Arizona and Nevada. In 1999, Gary and Betty moved to Council Bluffs, Iowa. They loved spending time with their children and their families, and attending grandchildren and great-grandchildren’s activities and events. Betty enjoyed playing cards, dancing and definitely shopping. She moved back to Red Oak in 2025 to be closer to family and attend family events.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Gary Treat on December 17, 2018; son, Timothy on January 15, 2009, and sister, Elva Blackburn.

Betty is survived by two sons: Jeff Treat (Susan Bryant) of Tulsa, OK and Bruce (Connie) Treat of Bellevue, NE; and daughter-in-law, Tammy Treat of Red Oak, IA; 7 grandchildren: Tina (Jerod) Weston, Travis Treat, Tasha (Corey) Vestal, Kevin Colton (Jeannie McIntosh), Michelle Leonard, Sherri Sherwood and Tina (Dennis) Tucker; 16 great-grandchildren; and sister, Beverly (Ed) Fetzer of New Bern, NC; other relatives and friends.

Funeral Service will be held on Friday, October 2, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home, Red Oak, IA

Visitation and viewing will be held on Friday, October 2, 2026, at Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home from 11:00 a.m. until service time at 1:00 p.m.

Memorials may be directed to the Oncology Department of Montgomery County Memorial Hospital.
