Obituary

Blanche Margaret Berlin, the daughter of Charles and Amanda Peterson Peterson, was born July 31, 1913 near Coburg, Iowa She passed away on Saturday, November 24, 2012 at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital, Red Oak, Iowa at the age of 99 years, 3 months and 24 days. Blanche was raised in the Coburg area and in 1931, graduated from Coburg Consolidated High School. Following graduation, she moved to Omaha, Nebraska to work as an accountant. On November 3, 1945, Blanche was united in marriage to Melvin G. Berlin at the Fremont Lutheran Church in Nyman. Blanche and Mel farmed east of Essex, south of Stanton, and southwest of Red Oak. In 1961, they purchased the farm Blanche was born on, located 3 miles east of Coburg. Blanche earned her CNA and worked for Good Samaritan Society in Red Oak for 15 years For many years, she also served as a 4-H leader. Mel and Blanche moved into Red Oak in l992. Blanche was a member of the Fremont Lutheran Church at Nyman and member of the Farm Bureau Women's group. She enjoyed tending to her large garden, canning and freezing her produce to be enjoyed by the family throughout the year, along with growing flowers. She loved her family dearly and supported them in their activities. Blanche was preceded in death by her parents; husband Melvin Berlin on May 5, 2008; sister, Dora Isaacson; and brothers: Carl and Paul Peterson. Blanche is survived by 5 children: Donna Lewis and husband Jim of Red Oak, IA; Sharon Scherbring and husband Jim of Marana, AZ; Randall Berlin and wife Harriet of Columbus, NE; Patricia Kaess and husband Todd of Azle, TX; and Douglas Berlin and wife Sheryl of Atlantic, IA; 10 grandchildren: Robert Bishop and wife Randee; Randall Bishop and wife Tracee; Lindsay Ogle and husband Brent; Heidi Elliott and husband Chris; Kelsey Berlin; Nathan Kaess; Philip Kaess and wife Nichol; Adam Berlin; Katie Traver and husband Joel; and Megan Berlin; 3 great-grandchildren: Jonathon Bishop; Alexander and Emma Ogle; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. May God bless her memory and give to those who mourn. Funeral Service will be held Thursday, November 29, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at the Fremont Lutheran Church, Nyman Burial in Mt Hope Cemetery, Nyman Rev. Jerry Lamb, Officiating Visitation with the family on Wednesday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home Memorials to the Fremont Lutheran Church Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
