Obituary

Bobbie L. "Bob" Harper, the son of William H. and Iola J. Hite Harper was born November 23, 1929 in Red Oak, Iowa. He passed away after an extended illness on Thursday, May 20, 2010 at the Cass County Memorial Hospital, Atlantic, Iowa at the age of 80 years, 5 months and 27 days. Bob was raised in the Red Oak area. He began working at a young age, being employed for Nelson's Dairy, Green Bay Lumber, Hawkeye Lumber and Russ Lloyd Construction. Bob was united in marriage to Ruby M. Thomas on August 14, 1949 in Red Oak, Iowa. They moved to Newark, Delaware in l953, living there for 7 years. In 1960, Bob and Ruby moved to their farm northwest of Villisca. He worked for International Association of Heat & Frost Insulation and Allied workers as an insulator for 35 years. Bob was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Red Oak. He enjoyed spending time with their grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Bob was preceded in death by his parents; son, Robert A. Harper; sister, JoAnn Reddick; brother, Bill Harper; and great-grandson, Tristen Noll. Bob is survived by his wife of 60 years, Ruby M. Harper of rural Villisca, IA; daughter, Nancy Watts and companion Jerry Gould of Villisca, IA; 5 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; 2 special nieces: Terri Palmer of Newark, DE and Rachel Durman and husband Mike of Carl Junction, MO; daughter-in-law, Kathy Harper of Albuquerque, NM; and sister, Ellen Smith of Newark, DE; along with other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. May God bless his memory and give strength to those who mourn Memorial Graveside Service will be held Friday, June 11, 2010 at 5:00 p.m. at Arlington Cemetery, northwest of Villisca, IA Rev. Gordon Scott, Officiating Memorials to the American Cancer Society Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
