Obituary

Bruce Wade Artherholt, the son of George W. and Evelyn Opal Strom Artherholt was born November 15, 1937 in Red Oak, Iowa. He passed away on Sunday, June 24, 2012 at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital, Red Oak, Iowa at the age of 74 years, 7 months and 9 days. Bruce grew up in Red Oak and in 1955 graduated from Red Oak High School. He attended Grinnell College, graduating in l959 with a degree in economics. Bruce then moved to Mason City, Iowa where he was a bank examiner for several years. He also, served in the Iowa Army National Guard, being activated during the Cuban Missile Crisis. Bruce began his 30 year career with the Thos D. Murphy Company in 1962 with the accounting department and later in sales, living in Omaha, NE and moving to Red Oak in l966. Bruce was united in marriage to Janice Borkowski on June l9, 1971 in Manning, Iowa. Bruce and Janice owned and operated Ingmand Dog Food Company from 1978 to l985. Following the closing of the Murphy Company, Bruce worked for Bankers Advertising and then for the Pella Corporation. He enjoyed golfing and playing cards, especially poker. Bruce loved being outdoors hunting and fishing, along with yard work and in later years feeding the birds and squirrels. He also, enjoyed watching golf and football on T.V. Bruce was a member of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church, and past member of the Red Oak Elks Lodge having served as Exalted Ruler, the Rotary Club, Optimist Club, Jaycees, having served as President of all three, Red Oak Ambassadors and Demolay as a teenager. Bruce was preceded in death by his father, George W. Artherholt; mother, Evelyn O. Lomas; step-father, Thomas B. Lomas; and brother-in-law, Keith Collier. Bruce is survived by his wife, Janice Artherholt of Red Oak, IA; daughter, Lisa Artherholt of Anita, IA; brother, Dr. William Artherholt and wife Alice of Red Oak, IA; sister, Ann Collier of Columbia, MO; brothers-in-law: Lyle Borkowski and wife Marlene of Manning, IA, Lenus Borkowski and wife Kristi of Manning, IA; sister-in-law, Jo Ann Musfeldt and husband Roger of Omaha, NE; 11 nieces and nephews: Amy Spainhower, Heidi Michaelain, Wade Artherholt, Cindy Lopez, Kari Deal, Amy Borkowski, Lucas Borkowski, Travis Borkowski, Marcus Borkowski, Aaron Musfeldt and Adam Musfeldt along with their families, and by other relatives and friends. May God bless his memory and give strength to those who mourn. Funeral Service will be held Wednesday, June 27, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Red Oak Burial in Evergreen Cemetery, Red Oak Rev. Dr. George Hooper, Officiating Visitation with the family present on Tuesday from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home Memorials may be directed to the Bruce Artherholt Memorial.
