Obituary

Margaret Maurine "Bunny" Torrence, the daughter of Dr. Peter W. and Della (Skaugstad) Qually was born October 11, 1917 at Bode, Iowa. She passed away on Wednesday, May 16, 2018 at Westchester Village in Lenexa, Kansas at the age of 100 years, 7 months and 5 days.

Bunny graduated from Bode High School in 1935 and attended Iowa State Teachers College where she received her teacher's certificate. On January 1, 1937, Bunny was united in marriage to Robert M. Torrence. Bob and Bunny lived in Scranton and Rockwell City before making their home in Red Oak in 1942. She worked at Spurgeon's Store, Brown Clothing, Swanson Clothing, Sundell Shoe Store, and then for 26 years with the Thos D. Murphy Company, as a proof reader. Bunny was an active member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church over the years, singing in the choir, serving as Sunday School Superintendent and was chairman for WELCA, many times. She was a past member of the Monday Club and Montgomery County Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, where she coordinated workers for the Lemon Tree Gift Shop. In her retirement years, Bunny stayed busy helping with the blood bank, was a life-line caller, served on the Good Samaritan Society advocate board and worked many years at Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home. She enjoyed knitting gifts for family and friends and donated many items such as baby caps for the newborns at the hospital and items for fundraisers. Bunny made her home for two years at Arlington Place before moving to the Covenant Place in Lenexa, KS in July of 2013 to be close to her family. Bunny did not know a stranger, she loved helping others and having fun with family and friends. She was adventurous whether it was riding on a motorcycle at eighty-seven years of age or in a helicopter at ninety-one.  She was often exasperating but dearly loved by those whose lives she touched.  She was "BUNNY" and will be forever missed by all.

Bunny was preceded in death by her parents, loving husband, Robert on November 13, 1990; son-in-law, Jack Fleming in 2016 and great-granddaughter, Kayla McClain in infancy.

Bunny is survived by two daughters: Carolyn Fleming of Colorado Springs, CO and Patricia Buffon and husband, Donald of Overland Park, KS; five grandchildren: Lizabeth (Greg) McClain, Lisa (John) Hilliard, Mark (Amy) Buffon, Michael Fleming and Patrick (Shannon) Fleming;  ten great-grandchildren: Cassandra (Brennan) Halbersma, Dakota McClain, Alexandra (Andrew) McClanahan, Derek Hilliard, Sid Torrence Buffon, Tyler Fleming, Alexander M. Fleming, and Hayden, Haylee and Hadley Fleming;  other relatives and many friends.

May God bless her memory and give strength to those who mourn.
