Obituary

Calvin Dean Veseen, the son of Ray and Edla Peterson Veseen, was born March 1, 1925 in Montgomery County, Iowa, west of Stanton. He passed away on Thursday, March 20, 2008 at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital, Red Oak, Iowa at the age of 83 years and 19 days. Calvin lived his entire life in Stanton. He loved baseball and played in high school, lettering 3 years. Cal graduated from Stanton High School in 1943. Following graduation, he soon began his life long career of farming. Calvin was united in marriage to Phyllis Lungren on April 26, 1946 in Stanton, Iowa. For 43 years, Cal and Phyllis made their home on their farm. He also sold seed corn for the Pioneer Company for 13 years. Cal was a member of Mamrelund Lutheran Church, having been Sunday School superintendent for many years, along with serving on the church board. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends, drinking coffee and solving all the world problems. In November of 2005, Cal and Phyllis moved to the Stanton Care Center. Calvin was preceded in death by his parents. Calvin is survived by his wife of 61 years, Phyllis Veseen of Stanton, IA; two daughters: Susan Petty and husband Steve of Clarinda, IA; and Becky Downs and husband Robert of Blue Springs, MO; 4 grandchildren: Scott Petty and wife Julie; Ben Petty and wife Marianne: Katie McCauley and husband Brian; and Sam Downs; great-grandson, Caden Petty; two sisters: Mrs. Arlene Lantz of Red Oak, IA and Mrs. Lucille Raniger of Manning, IA; nieces and nephews, other relatives and a host of friends. May God bless his memory and give strength to those who mourn. Funeral Service will be held Saturday, March 22, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. At Mamrelund Lutheran Church, Stanton, Iowa Burial in Mamre Cemetery, Stanton, Iowa Rev. Dr. Eric Kutzli, Officiating Visitation with the family present on Friday evening, March 21, from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home Memorials may be made to Mamrelund Lutheran Church Roofing Fund. Services entrusted to Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home.
