Carolyn "Lyn" Gibson, 82, of Red Oak, Iowa, passed away on August 10, 2026. Born on March 12, 1944, in Charleston, West Virginia, the daughter of Thomas and Thelma (Pierson) Gibson. Lynn lived a life defined by her generous spirit, her love of family, and her unwavering devotion to serving others.

Lyn was a woman of remarkable intellect and determination. She earned her first degree from West Virginia State University before going on to complete her Master's degree in Industrial Engineering at West Virginia University, a testament to her drive and dedication to excellence. Her academic achievements reflected the same perseverance and discipline that would characterize every aspect of her life.

Though her roots were firmly planted in West Virginia, Lyn eventually made Red Oak, Iowa, her home. She embraced the community wholeheartedly, and the people of Red Oak embraced her in return. The friends she made there became family to her, and she loved them deeply. Lyn was a fixture in the Red Oak community, giving generously of her time through volunteer work and always showing up for the people around her. She loved her family with all of her heart, and that love extended outward to everyone fortunate enough to know her.

Lyn had a wonderful zest for life and a spirit of adventure. She loved to travel, especially with her sisters and her niece, and their road trips always included a stop at a casino along the way. Lyn had a particular fondness for slot machines and never passed up a chance to try her luck. She was also an avid bowler and quite skilled at it. A passionate football fan, Lyn was a proud and loyal supporter of the Pittsburgh Steelers.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Thelma Gibson; her brothers, Tommy Gibson, James Gibson, Charles Gibson, Raymond Gibson, and William "Bill" Gibson; and her sisters, Helen Pryor and Frances Hare.

Above all else, Lyn was a woman of deep and abiding faith. She was devoted to serving God through Bible study and teaching His word to others. She enjoyed listening to gospel music and singing along. She never missed her Bible study classes and was always present in church, living out her faith not only in worship but in the way she gave to others each and every day. Her life was a reflection of the love and grace she found in her relationship with the Lord.

In her honor, her family shares the words of Psalm 23: "The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever."

Celebration of Life Services will be held on Tuesday, September 29, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home, 509 N 6th Street, Red Oak, Iowa 51566.

Lyn now rests in the eternal peace she spent her life faithfully seeking. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
