Carolyn Ruth Quist, the daughter of Harry and Ellen (Clauson) Goranson, was born  June 30, 1931, in Montgomery County, Iowa. She passed away on Monday, December 16, 2024, at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital, Red Oak, Iowa, at the age of 93 years, 5 months, and 16 days.

Carolyn lived her entire life in Montgomery County, Iowa. She was a 1948 graduate of Red Oak High School. Carolyn worked for the Iowa Power and Light Company in Red Oak, until her marriage to Harlan Quist on January 22, 1955, in Red Oak. They made their home on the family farm north of Stanton, until moving into Stanton in 1978. Carolyn was a member of the Mamrelund Lutheran Church, where she taught Sunday School for several years, and served on many committees. Over the years, Carolyn  was also a 4-H leader, member of the Friendly Study Club, and volunteered at the Stanton Care Center, Montgomery County Memorial Hospital, and the Stanton Swedish Historical Center.

Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Harlan Quist on August 27, 2017; sister, Eleanor White; brother, Kenneth Goranson; and son-in-law, Greg Freeman.

Carolyn is survived by her four children: Dennis Quist of Stanton, IA, Sandra Quist and companion Steve Underwood of Council Bluffs, IA, Sharon Freeman of Beloit, WI, and Nancy (Lynn) Mulherin of Naperville, IL; grandchildren: Kyle (Anne) Quist, Braden Quist, Sadie (Dylan) Waugh, Ryan Kmezich, Courtney (Daniel) Sargent, Andrea Hyle, Connor Mulherin, Haley Mulherin and Riley Mulherin; and great-grandchildren: Hunter Quist, Lillyanna Kmezich, Luca Waugh, Presley Hyle and Briggs Sargent; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Visitation with the family on Friday, December 20, 2024, at Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Memorials may be directed to the Carolyn Quist Memorial Fund for future designation.
