Charley Lee Whipple, the son of Roscoe and Lena Berhrens Whipple was born January 6, 1935 near Stanton, Iowa. He died suddenly on July 13, 2007 at his home in Red Oak, Iowa at the age of 72 years, 6 months and 7 days. Charley was raised in Montgomery County having lived a short time in an orphanage. He served his country in the U. S. Navy during the Korean Conflict. He lived in Greenville, SC, Springhill, FL and in 2003, moved to Red Oak, IA. For 47 years, Charley drove a semi-tractor trailer over the road. He traveled all over the lower 48 states during his driving career. Charley was preceded in death by his father, Roscoe Whipple; infant daughter, Jackie; step-mother, Leah Whipple; uncles: Harry and Junior Whipple; and aunt, Mabel Heitmeyer. Charley is survived by two daughters: Vicky Whipple of Garrison, MN; and Patsie Lance and companion Bill of Milaca, MN; two granddaughters: Heather and Jennifer; sister, Mary Ann Wasserman of Red Oak, IA; half-sister, Lucy Thornley and husband Virgil of Omaha, NE; mother, Lena Stanton, age 99 of Omaha, NE; aunts: Kathleen Fleagle of Red Oak, IA; Dorothy Anderson of Davenport, IA; and Frances Wells of Wichita, KS; uncles: James Whipple and wife Evelyn of Clarinda, IA, and Norman Behrens Hamlin, NY; nieces and nephews; other relatives and many friends. Charley was cremated. A gathering of family and friends will be held on Sunday, July 15, 2007 at Acorn Acres, Community Room in Red Oak from 4:00 P.M. to 6:00 P.M. Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce assisting the family with arrangements.
