Charlotte Marie Edwards Barnes, 89, daughter of Wallace Roy and Katie Edwards, was born September 24, 1918 in Wales, Iowa. She passed away Christmas Day 2007 at St. Barnabas Nursing Home in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Charlotte's early years were spent on her parent's farm in Wales before moving to Red Oak where she graduated from Red Oak High School. After marrying Russell Y. Barnes August 2, 1942, they spent their lives together in a number of eastern cities eventually settling in Pittsburgh. They raised three daughters who learned from their mother the joys of rural and small town life in Wales and Red Oak. The family frequently visited parents, siblings, and cousins who lived in this region for many years. While Charlotte and Russell spent their adult lives far away, their hearts remained here in Red Oak. Close relatives left with fond memories and enduring love for Charlotte include her three daughters, Carole Jean Stu Williams of Dewittville, NY; Bonnie Rae Brown of Columbus, OH; and Barbara Kay Barnes of Pittsburgh, PA; brother, Gerald ArDee Edwards of Corona, CA; sister, Evelyn Kennedy of Narco, CA; her six grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. There will be no services but, Charlotte's ashes will be interred at Evergreen Cemetery at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 14, 2008 where she will join Russell in eternal peace.
