Charlotte Lenore Caroline Lantz Strickland, the daughter of Arnoth and Nora Oakleaf Lantz, was born January 5, 1927, on the family farm south of Stanton, Iowa, and passed away Tuesday, June 30, 2009, at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital, Red Oak, Iowa, the age of 82 years, 5 months and 25 days. Charlotte attended Scott Center Country School through the eighth grade. She then attended Stanton High School, where she was a starting forward on the basketball team all four years of high school. She was the salutatorian of her graduating class of 1944. She then worked at Houghton State Bank in Red Oak until her marriage to Harry Strickland, Jr. on April 6, 1945, at Mamrelund Lutheran Church, where she had been baptized and was a lifelong member. Charlotte was a homemaker and farmwife, but also was well-known for her wall papering and catering abilities. She and Junior loved spending time with their grandchildren. Charlotte liked to take them for walks on the ""rock road"", bake and cook with them, and made Pound Puppies and quilts for them. She was very active in church activities, was a 4-H leader, and a member of neighborhood clubs. Charlotte was preceded in death by her husband Junior on September 17, 2004, parents, step-father Ernest Swanson, sister and husband Octavia and Allan Levine, sister Korine Finley, brother and wife Levi and Dorothy Lantz, brother-in-law and wife Lloyd and Helen Strickland, sister-in-law and husband Florence and Malcolm Victor, and brother-in-law Ivan Nelson. Charlotte is survived by her children: Julie Newman and husband John of Stanton, Iowa; Joel Strickland of Stanton, Iowa; Janean Hart and husband Rodney of Stanton, Iowa; and Joan Staples and husband Richard of Corning, Iowa. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren: Ingrid Newman Perkins and husband Matthew of Emerson, Iowa; Andrew Newman and wife Allison of Des Moines, Iowa; Kyle Newman of Des Moines, Iowa; Ashley Strickland McDonald and husband John of Stanton, Iowa; Aubrey Strickland Dreyer and husband Mike of Farragut, Iowa; Austin Strickland of Stanton, Iowa; Jason Hart and wife Katie of Stanton, Iowa; Ryan Hart of Stanton, Iowa; Brianne Hart of Mission, Kansas; Jamie Fast Noakes of Las Vegas, Nevada; Erica Fast Borja and husband Dennis of Guam; and a step-grandson Mike Staples of Corning, Iowa. Charlotte has 7 great-grandchildren: Isabelle, Mason and Johnathan Perkins; Ellyanna and Jameson McDonald; Kyla Hart and Charlotte Borja; 2 future great-grandchildren, and a sister-in-law Marjorie Nelson of Stanton, Iowa, other relatives and many friends.
