Chris Alan Bartholomew, the son of Fred and Judy Hill Bartholomew was born February 11, 1964 in Shenandoah, Iowa. He died on Friday, May 6, 2011 after an extended illness at his home in Red Oak, Iowa at the age of 47 years, 2 months and 25 days. Chris was raised in and around the Fremont county area. He graduated in 1982 from Fremont Mills High School in Tabor, IA. After graduation, he attended and graduated from the Professional Arts Inc. Barber College. Chris went into partnership with his uncle Bart Bartholomew in his shop. He was also a volunteer fireman for 15 years. Chris was an accomplished musician, playing drums and guitar, and sang in many bands. He wrote songs and made a few recordings. Chris was always first to lead fundraisers for anyone in need. He was an avid poker player, loved fishing, stock car racing and was a huge fan of comedy, and believed in Larry the Cable Guy's motto, "Get R Done". At the young age of 22, Chris's kidneys failed and he was placed on dialysis. He survived dialysis for 25 years. Chris fought many battles with his health, although many times he was in severe pain, he always retained his sense of humor. Chris lost his battle on May 6, 2011 with his wife and daughter by his side. Chris was a devoted husband and father and will be missed by all whose lives he touched. The sun will not shine quite as bright, or the music quite as sweet as it once was. Chris was preceded in death by his brother Justin Bartholomew; grandparents: Gertie Bartholomew, Ray Hill and Laverna Hill Fender; and step-father Ivan Taylor, Jr. Chris is survived by his wife Jody of Red Oak, IA; daughter Ashley Bartholomew of Sidney, IA; father Fred Bartholomew and wife Carol of Tabor, IA; mother Judy Taylor of San Antonio, TX; grandfather: Otis Bartholomew; three sisters, two brothers, many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. May God bless his memory and give strength to those who mourn. Visitation and viewing will be held Sunday, May 8, 2011 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home, Red Oak. Memorial Graveside Service will be held Tuesday, May 10, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. in the Tabor Cemetery, Tabor, Iowa. A memorial is being established in Chris's name.
