Obituary

Clarence Donovan "Donnie" Magneson, the son of Clarence V. and Doris "Marie" Herron Magneson was born February 23, 1923 at Wallin, Iowa. He passed away suddenly on Saturday, March 17, 2012 at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital, Red Oak, Iowa at the age of 89 years and 22 days. Donnie attended school at Wallin, completing 7th grade. At this time, the family moved to the Coburg area where Donnie continued school, graduating with the Coburg High class of l942. He entered the U.S. Navy, serving during WW II. Following Donnie's honorable discharge, he returned to Red Oak. Donnie was united in marriage to Mildred "Millie" Jones on August 20, 1947 in Red Oak. They made Red Oak their home for the past 65 years. Donnie was a hard worker and early in his career drove a gas truck for Farmers Mercantile, and worked for Moorman Feed. He and his brother, LeRoy started and operated a milk truck business for 2 years. Donnie then sold feed for Walnut Grove and drove a truck for Russell Halvin for 17 years. In 1973, Donnie began working for Uniroyal until his retirement in l986. After his retirement, he kept busy by helping his daughter, LaDonna with her lunch wagon at auctions. He enjoyed all sports, especially baseball and photography. Donnie loved being outside, feeding his pet squirrels, and was always ready to help his neighbors mow their yards. He was a member of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Red Oak. Donnie was preceded in death by his parents; son, Darrell Duane Magneson on March 17, 1995; grandson, Jacob Daniel; sisters: Marilyn Baker and Lorena Sothman; and brothers: Ralph, Delano and LeRoy. C.D. "Donnie" is survived by his wife of 64 years, Mildred "Millie" Magneson of Red Oak, IA; sons: Gerald Magneson and wife Patricia of Des Moines, IA; Bruce Magneson and wife Kathy of Red Oak, IA; Dwight Magneson of Red Oak, IA; and Gordon Magneson and wife Lisa of Red Oak, IA; daughter, LaDonna Johnson and husband Rick of Stanton, IA; daughter-in-law, Shelly Magneson of Urbandale, IA; 13 grandchildren: Grant Magneson, Scott Thomas, Cheryl Thomas, Brook Lynn Magneson, Parker Magneson, Ryan Magneson and wife JoAnna, Travis Magneson, Stacey Magneson, Sara Protor, Drew Magneson, Derrick McAdams and fiancée Danielle Theisen, Eric Johnson and Nicole Johnson; 11 great-grandchildren: Christina Ringer, Matthew Ringer, Ashley Ringer, Chelsea Thomas, Suzanne Thomas, Scott Thomas Jr, Sloan Thomas, Jadin Johnson, Devyn Moreno, Desmond Moreno, Karisma Magneson and Illiana Magneson; sisters: Dorothy Johnson and husband Quentin of Emerson, IA; and Karen Johnson of Bolivar, MO; sister-in-law, Mary Ann Magneson of Stanton, IA; and Doris Ortloff of Bloomington, MN; brother-in-law, Veryll Magneson of Stanton, IA; a niece Donnie and Millie helped raise, Lucille Moy of Crystal Lake, MN; nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends. Funeral Service will be Thursday, March 22, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Red Oak, Burial in Evergreen Cemetery, Red Oak Rev. Dr. George Hooper and Rev. John Swenson, Officiating Military Graveside Rites by U.S. Navy Visitation with the family present Wednesday evening, March 21, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home A memorial is being established in Donnie's name. Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
