Daniel Joseph Huston, the son of R.C. "Mike" and Betty Rigby Huston was born December 12, 1959 in Ames, Iowa. He passed away peacefully after an extended illness Wednesday, July 28, 2010 at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital, Red Oak, Iowa the age of 50 years, 7 months and 16 days. Dan lived his early years in Rockwell City, Iowa, when in 1973 the family moved to Red Oak. He graduated from Red Oak High School in l978. While in high school, Dan was active in many sports and a member of the National Honor Society. Dan attended Iowa State University at Ames. He returned to Red Oak and worked several years for H. Gene McKeown Associates. Dan was united in marriage to Kim M. Kruse on August 19, 1989 in Lincoln, Nebraska. For the past 15 years, Dan worked for R.D. Blue Construction Company as an estimator. Dan and Kim made the Emerson-Hastings area their home for many years. He was a member of the Emerson First Baptist Church and served on the Christian Education Board. Dan was also a board member of EMAYS and coached many young athletes, including his own children. He was a simple man who cared deeply for his wife, children and family. Dan was preceded in death by his grandparents; nephew, Lee Huston and sister-in-law, Jennifer Kruse. Dan is survived by his wife, Kim M. Huston of rural Hastings, IA; children, Jacob and Claire Huston of the home; father & mother, Dr. R.C. "Mike" & Betty Huston of Red Oak, IA; brothers: Dr. Pat & Cindy Huston of Red Oak, IA and Dr. Mike & Jackie Huston of Jasper, FL; sisters: Kim Smith of Ft. Walton Beach, FL; and Cathy & Chris Nelson of Atlantic, IA; nieces & nephews: Este and Abby Huston; Chad Hill; Kyle and Ben Nelson; Katie, Libby and Ben Massey; great-niece, Audrey Hill; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Rinehart & Alice Kruse of Lincoln, NE; and sister-in-law, Julie & Dr. John Massey of Lincoln, NE; other relatives and a host of friends. Funeral Service will be held Monday, August 2, 2010 at 10:30 a.m. at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Red Oak, Iowa Burial in the Emerson Cemetery, Emerson, Iowa Rev. Larry Pries, Officiating Visitation with the family present on Sunday afternoon from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. at Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home. Family requests memorials in lieu of flowers to the Jacob & Claire Education Fund or Emerson First Baptist Church. Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
