Obituary

Daryl Augusta Erickson, the daughter of C. Arthur and Edna F. Johnson Erickson was born January 7, 1924 in Scott Township of Montgomery County, Iowa. She died suddenly on October 31, 2011 at her home in rural Stanton, Iowa at the age of 87 years, 9 months and 24 days. Daryl attended Larson #1 Country School and graduated from Stanton High School in 1941. Following graduation, she worked a few years at Woolworth's in Red Oak. Daryl then began working as a telephone operator with Northwestern Bell in Red Oak, relocating to Spencer and then Waterloo, Iowa. In 1983, Daryl retired from the telephone company after 36 years. She moved from Cedar Falls, Iowa back to Stanton in l983. Daryl was a member of the Mamrelund Lutheran Church, American Legion Auxiliary, Neighborhood Club and Telephone Pioneers of America, and a past member of Business and Professional Women's Club. She enjoyed sewing, quilting, oil painting and collecting cook books. Daryl loved to travel in her retirement years, traveling to Sweden and the west coast of the United States. She was learning to speak Swedish and enjoyed volunteering at the Swedish Heritage and Cultural Center in Stanton. Daryl was preceded in death by her parents and a sister-in-law, Gladys Erickson. Daryl is survived by her brother, Wesley Erickson of Stanton, IA; niece, Bonnie Hanson and husband Robert of Maplewood, MN; great-niece, Lia Sacco and husband Giuseppe of Boca Raton, FL; great-great-nephews: Antonio and Matteo; along with other relatives and a host of friends. May God bless her memory and give strength to those who mourn. Funeral Service will be held Friday, November 4, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. at the Mamrelund Lutheran Church, Stanton, IA Burial in Mamre Cemetery, Stanton Rev. Dr. Eric Kutzli, Officiating Open viewing at Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home on Thursday, Nov. 3, 2011 from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Memorials may be directed to Mamrelund Lutheran Church or Swedish Heritage & Cultural Center of Stanton. Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
