David Allen Govig, the son of Edward and Verla (Bean) Govig was born November 3, 1957, in Montgomery County, Iowa. He passed away suddenly on Thursday, August 19, 2021, at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital, Red Oak, Iowa, the age of 63 years, 9 months, and 16 days.
David was raised in the Villisca, Lewis and Griswold, Iowa areas. He served on the Red Oak Fire Department as a paid firefighter. David became a cook at the Red Oak County Club and during this time, met Lucy. David was united in marriage to Lucy Bredberg on January 22, 1994. They moved to St. Joseph, Missouri, living there for two years before moving to Clarinda in 2001. David then worked for Shore Motors and started his own business, Clarinda Car Groom and Locksmith. In 2011, they made Red Oak their home and he opened up Red Oak Car Groom and Locksmith. He enjoyed fishing, deer hunting, playing Texas hold 'em poker, and especially loved to cook, play the guitar and his beagle dogs.
David was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Rendi Govig and nephew, Cody Smith.
David is survived by his wife, Lucy Govig of Red Oak, IA; daughter, Tammy Terry and companion Karl Lloyd of Clarinda, IA; sons: Jim (Deb) Terry of Red Oak, IA, Damian Govig of Council Bluffs, IA, Jake Holman of Villisca, IA, and DJ Holman of Omaha, NE; 7 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren; brothers: Daniel (Lori) Govig of St Joseph, MO, Dennis (Rose) Govig of St. Joseph, MO, JR (Teresa) Seering of Shenandoah, IA; and sisters: Donna Govig and Mike of St. Joseph, MO, and Diane Govig (Dave Dawson) of Shenandoah, IA; aunt, Karen Bean; other relatives and friends.
May God bless his memory and give strength to those who mourn.
Cremation has taken place and a memorial gathering will be held at a later date.
Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
