Obituary

David Lee Volquartsen, the son of Carl and Eleanora Murphy Volquartsen was born March 6, 1940 in Manning, Iowa.He passed away on Thursday, September 4, 2008 at his home in Red Oak, Iowa at the age of 68 years, 5 months and 29 days. David was raised in Omaha, Nebraska. He entered the U. S. Marine Corps in 1957.David served with the Corps during the Vietnam War, being honorably discharged in 1968.David married Susan McMillin in Red Oak, Iowa on June 12, 1973.They lived in Omaha, NE, and Des Moines, IA, before making their home in Red Oak in 1983.David was a chef and baker; he especially enjoyed decorating wedding cakes. Most recently, David was employed as an over-the-road truck driver. David was a past member of the Red Oak Eagles Lodge. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and spending time with his family. David was preceded in death by his parents; son, Sean Volquartsen in 1997; and brother-in-law, George McMillin. David is survived by his wife, Susan Volquartsen of Red Oak, IA; sons: Gary Volquartsen and wife Marcey of Everett, WA; and Joseph Volquartsen and wife Amber of Stanton, IA; daughters: Barbara Berg and husband David of Arlington, WA; Karla Neiser and husband Tim of Everett, WA; Christina Volquartsen of Red Oak, IA; and Monica Currin and husband Phillip Eugene Jr. of Prescott, IA; 13 grandchildren: Jordan, Kyle, Sarah, DeAnna, Joey, Abby, Ryan, Desirée, Devin, Deric, Kiaya, Phillip and Keatis; sister, Patricia Gordon and husband Carl of Scribner, Nebraska; brother, Daniel Volquartsen of Omaha, Nebraska: daughter-in-law, Sonia Kunze and husband Mitch of Red Oak, IA; brother-in-law, Robert McMillin and wife Linda of Red Oak, IA; sisters-in-law: Velma Smith and husband Marlin of Red Oak, IA; Nancy Smith and husband Dennis of Council Bluffs, IA; and Dortha Morris and husband Dave of McCook, NE; nieces and nephews; other relatives and a host of friends. May God bless his memory and give strength to those who mourn. Funeral Service will be held Monday, September 8, 2008 at 10:30 a.m. at Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home, Red Oak Burial in Evergreen Cemetery, Red Oak Pastor Arlan Hoskins and Father Ken Gross, Officiating A memorial is being established in David's name. Open viewing on Sunday at Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home. Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
