Debra Lynn Rhoten, the daughter of David F. and Judith (Hayes) Smith, was born January 17, 1962, at El Paso, Texas. She passed away on Sunday, April 30, 2023, following a battle with cancer at Accura Healthcare of Stanton, Stanton, Iowa, at the age of 61 years, 3 months and 13 days.

Deb lived her younger years in Texas before the family moved to Red Oak, Iowa, when she was in her early teens. In 1980, Deb graduated from Red Oak High School and went on to attended college at Iowa Western Community College in Council Bluffs, Iowa. She moved to Houston, Texas, where she worked for Exxon Mobil Oil Company, as a computer programmer. Deb moved back to Iowa, having homes in Shenandoah and Council Buffs, where she managed convenience stores for Casey's, Kum & Go, TA and most recently, Kwik Shop in Bellevue, Nebraska. Deb enjoyed attending craft shows. She was preceded in death by her father, David Smith.

Deb is survived by her mother, Judith Wheeler of Red Oak, IA; brother, David (Anita) Smith of Corpus Christi, TX; sisters: Lisa (Joe) Kiefer of Estherville, IA and Cindy (Nick) Koch of Council Bluffs, IA; step-sisters: Nicci Wheeler and Dawn (Kip) Myers; nieces and nephews; and aunts and uncles: Marilyn Westover, Linda (Greg) Rodgers, Donald Hayes, Everett (Hazel) Hayes, Jerry Hayes, Bob (Dottie) Hayes, Russell Hayes and Jack Smith; cousins, other relatives and many friends.

A Private Family Graveside Service will be held at Evergreen Cemetery, Red Oak, Iowa.
