Dewey William Carpenter, the son of Jesse E. and Leona L. (Porter) Carpenter was born June 28, 1931 at Red Oak, Iowa. He passed away on Friday, May 11, 2018 in Red Oak, Iowa at the age of 86 years, 10 months and 13 days.
Dewey lived his entire life in Red Oak. He entered the U.S. Army on August 11, 1954, serving during the Korean War and received an honorable discharge on August 21, 1956. Dewey was united in marriage to Verlea Sands and to this union five children were born: John, Dewey Don, Jennifer, Jay and Jack. He later married Joyce Bruce and after her death in 2002, Dewey married Darlene M. Kirchert on June 3, 2003 at Rockport, MO. Dewey operated a septic tank service business along with a salvage yard for many years in Red Oak. He was always a wheeler and dealer. Dewey enjoyed dancing, singing and playing poker at the pool hall. He loved his horses, camping, traveling and his dog, Marco. Dewey was the oldest living member of the Red Oak Eagles Lodge which he had been a member for over 55 years. Dewey was a member of the American Legion Lorraine Post #67 in Red Oak.
Dewey was preceded in death by his parents; second wife, Joyce; two sons: John and Jack Carpenter; two brothers: Gene Carpenter and Howard Carpenter; five sisters: Lois Grasty, Bonnie Taber, Joan Coy, Wanda Binns and Charlotte Rush; nephew, Kenneth Novack; and step-grandson, Christopher Laire.
Dewey is survived by his wife, Darlene Carpenter of Red Oak, IA; three children: Dewey Don Carpenter of Red Oak, IA, Jay (Robbie) Carpenter of Portales, NM, and Jennifer (Harry) Walters of Creston, IA; daughter-in-law, Janell Juneau of Colorado Springs, CO; step-children: Randy (Janice) Bruce of Red Oak, IA, Catherine (William) Barnes of Englewood, CO, Sharon Hayes of Blue Springs, MO, Gary L. Pritchett of Shenandoah, IA and Patricia (Doug) Laire of Elliott, IA; 21 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; sister, Donna (Bill) Novack of Wahoo, NE; brother, Bernard (Jerrie) Binns of Red Oak, IA; sisters-in-law: Golda Carpenter of Creston, IA and Karen Carpenter of Independence, MO; other relatives and friends.
