Donald Lee Adams, the son of Leonard M. Adams and Adeline Mae Livengood Adams, was born May 16, 1938 in Iowa City, Iowa. He passed away peacefully on July 19, 2010 at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital, Red Oak at the age of 72 years, 2 months and 3 days. Donald was raised in southwest Iowa, primarily in Red Oak and attended school in the Red Oak school district. He served his country in the Iowa National Guard from December, 1958 to July, 1969. He was married to Joan Lenz on February 11, 1961 at Bellevue, Nebraska. Don enjoyed bowling, golf, gardening, dancing and his grandchildren. He spent many years as an over the road truck driver, and most recently had Adams Upholstery in Red Oak until his retirement. Don took great pride in repairing any flag brought to him at no charge for many years. He was featured in an Iowa Public Television episode that highlighted the Montgomery County Court of Honor's 1,000th flag dedication the year he was president of the Court of Honor. Don was a member of the American Legion Post Lorraine Post #67, Montgomery County Veterans Memorial Court of Honor and an honorary member of the Red Oak Fire Department. Don was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard and Adeline and his "Pop" Charles Max Allen; two brothers, Lowell and William Bill Adams; and two sisters, Mabel Adams and Charlotte Allen. Donald is survived by his daughters: Michele Johnson and husband Tony T. of Red Oak, IA; Lisa Judd and husband Willie of Kennewick, WA; and Teri Freund and husband Doug of Atlantic, IA; grandchildren: Shelby Applegate and husband Brent of Emerson, IA, Blaine and Canden Johnson of Red Oak, IA; Christine and husband Tom Potolicchio; Joey Judd, and Melody Priest and husband Eddy all of Kennewick, WA; Brandi, Sammy and Adam Freund of Atlantic, IA; and 4 great-grandchildren; brothers: Richard Dick Adams and wife Jody, Red Oak, IA; Leonard Jr. and wife Karen of Fort Myers, FL and sisters: Karen Clark and husband Cecil of Red Oak, IA and Janice Jensen and husband Jerry of Johnston, IA; special friend Phyllis Norris of Red Oak, IA; nieces and nephews, along with many friends. Visitation and Viewing with the family present Thursday evening July 22 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home Private burial will take place in Evergreen Cemetery, Red Oak at a later date.
