Obituary

Donald Wayne Burg, the son of Clarence and Helen (Jackson) Burg was born June 3, 1928 in Red Oak, Iowa. He passed away on Sunday, December 25, 2016 at the Good Samaritan Society, Red Oak, Iowa at the age of 88 years, 6 months and 22 days.
Don was raised in the Coburg area where he attended Coburg school and was a 1946 graduate. He began farming after high school, growing row crop and raising cattle and hogs. Don also served his country in the Iowa Army National Guard for 8 years. On November 4, 1970, Don was united in marriage to Sharlene Clark at Omaha, Nebraska. They lived and farmed in the Coburg area before moving into Red Oak in 1977. Don continued farming until 1991, when he retired. Don was a movie buff; he especially enjoyed black & white movies, even to the point of knowing all the old actors and actresses. Don was a great cook and gardener. He enjoyed feeding and watching the birds and squirrels in his back yard, and loved coffee time with friends at the Merc each day. During his active farming years, Don was involved in the Montgomery County Farm Bureau, helping with legislation on state and federal levels. He was a past member of the Red Oak Eagles Lodge and a lifetime member of the Climax Methodist Church.
Don was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Sharlene on April 28, 1996; son, Don "Butch" Burg Jr; brother, Bryon Burg and sister, Marilyn Mullins.
Don is survived by three children: Pam and husband, Dennis Carbaugh of Red Oak, IA; John Burg of Amarillo, TX and Shari and husband, Tim Hooper of Manchester, NH; grandchildren: David (Leslie) Carbaugh of Red Oak, IA and their children, Emily and Elizabeth; Dionne (Jamie) Binau of Red Oak, IA and their children, Darrion, Ashley and Trenton; Christi (Aaron) Johnson of Red Oak, IA and their children, Tyler, Dakota, Hunter, Brooklyn, Abby and Andrew; Kimberly (Chris) Mosier of St. Joseph, MO and their children, Madilyn, Molly, Isaac, Makayla, Gavin, Rhegan and Caelyn; Chris (Lovina) Burg of Spencer, IA and their children, Savannah and Colton; Philip (Kia) Burg of Bellevue, NE and their children, Naya and Jayden; Josh (Jessica) Burg of Spring Lake, NC; Jacob (Jennifer) Burg of Waco, TX and their child, Kendall; Sally McCormick of Ida Grove, IA and children, Gwinny and Greg; and Matthew (Sarah) Jackson of Anthon, IA and their children, Russell, Braiden and Olivia; great-great-grandson, Clark; daughter-in-law, Lois Burg of Round Rock, TX; sister, Joan Thorson of Omaha, NE; sister-in-law, Anna Marie Cleland of Red Oak, IA; and brother-in-law, Jack (Shirley) Clark of Amarillo, TX; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
