Obituary

Donald Warren Palmquist, the son of Elder and Ruth Johnson Palmquist, was born January 12, 1928 in Montgomery County, Iowa. He passed away on Wednesday, June 25, 2008 at the Stanton Care Center, Stanton, Iowa at the age of 80 years, 5 months and 13 days. Don graduated from Red Oak High School in l945. He entered the United States Marine Corps in l946 and received his honorable discharge in l948. After his Military service Don attended Iowa State College and graduated in l952. Don was united in marriage to Jean Cowardin on March 25, l951 at Malvern, Iowa. Jobs in the dairy industry took them to Idaho and California. In l968, the family moved to a farm south of Stanton where they lived until moving to Red Oak in 2005. Don enjoyed his rose garden, apple orchard, and sharing the ""fruits"" of his labor with others, calling himself ""Donny Apple-Swede"". He retired in l994 after serving as Montgomery County Assessor for seven years. Don was a member of the Evangelical Covenant Church in Stanton, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his son-in-law, Jeffrey Lundgren. Don is survived by his wife of 57 years, Jean Palmquist of Red Oak, IA; three daughters: Linda and husband Bruce Kaufman of Sparta, WI; Karen Lundgren of Essex, IA; Diane Brunette of Seattle, WA; eight grandchildren: Cherie Kaufman, Andrea and husband Ty Babinski, Danny Kaufman and wife Shannon, Mary and husband Bryan Clark, Melissa Kaufman, Emma Lundgren, Beth Lundgren, and Natalie Brunette; great-grandsons: Jonathan and Tyler Babinski; brothers: James Palmquist of Red Oak, IA; John Palmquist and wife Charlotte of Stanton, IA; nieces, nephews, cousins, along with many other relatives and friends. May God bless his memory and give strength to those who mourn. Funeral Service will be held Saturday, June 28, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. at the Evangelical Covenant Church in Stanton, Ia Burial at Mission Covenant Cemetery Rev. Paul Warder, Officiating Visitation with the family present on Friday evening at Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Memorials may be directed to the family.
