Obituary

Donald Dean "Skip" Funderburk, the son of Hiram and Fern (Darden) Funderburk was born April 25, 1937 in Maryville, Missouri. He passed away on Monday, October 17, 2016 at the Hospice with Heart House, Glenwood, Iowa at the age of 79 years, 5 months and 23 days.
Throughout Don's youth, the family lived in Maryville, MO, Shambaugh, IA, and Clarinda, IA, attending high school in Clarinda. Don entered the U.S. Army on February 12, 1957 and was honorably discharged on November 24, 1959. Don was united in marriage to Connie Conaway on August 12, 1960 at Red Oak, IA. They lived in Lincoln, NE, Dallas-Ft. Worth, TX, and Illinois before returning to Red Oak in 1972. Don worked for over 20 years with Union Carbide-Eveready Battery Company. After his retirement, he worked part-time for Fareway and the City of Red Oak Parks Department. Don's hobbies were woodworking, coin collecting, and bowling. He loved his old cars, Ford Mustangs, T-Birds, and motorcycles. Don was very proud of his restored Mustang, which won two first place trophies at the last car show he attended just last month.
Don was preceded in death by his father and wife, Connie, on April 16, 2005.
Don is survived by his three children: Jolene Hardy of Red Oak, IA; Daneen Robb of Papillion, NE; and Trent Funderburk of Red Oak, IA; 6 grandchildren: Donnie, Danielle, and Andrea Hardy; Haley Robb; and Kyle and Melanie Funderburk; mother, Fern Funderburk of Clarinda, IA; and sister, Betty "Sis" Hammer of Missouri Valley, IA; other relatives and many friends.

Graveside Service with Military Rites at Evergreen Cemetery, Red Oak, IA
Visitation with the family present will be held Wednesday evening October 19, 2016 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home
Memorials may be directed to St. Jude's Research Hospital.
