Obituary

Doris Lucille Coffman, the daughter of Joseph and Pearl Tyson Parmenter was born April 9, 1930 in Nebraska City, Nebraska. She died on Friday, July 6, 2007 at the Good Samaritan Center in Red Oak, Iowa at the age of 77 years, 2 months and 27 days. Doris was raised in Nebraska City, Nebraska where she graduated from the State School for the Blind in 1948. While in school, Doris was a member of the band. She was quite musically inclined, versatile in the playing of several instruments in addition to the piano. When she graduated, Doris was made an Honorary Admiral in the Great Nebraska Navy by the Governor. Doris was united in marriage to James E. Coffman on May 30, 1948 in Nebraska City. In 1961, Doris and James moved to Red Oak. Doris was a homemaker along with babysitting in the home for many years. She enjoyed cooking and was an excellent pie baker. Some of Doris's hobbies included crocheting and making crafts. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, V.F.W Auxiliary in Red Oak and Nebraska Association of the Blind. Doris was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Betty Pheifle; and brothers: Ernest and Richard. Doris is survived by her husband, James E. Coffman of Red Oak, IA; daughters: Jody Hossle and husband Joe of Emerson, IA; and Ruth Breedlove and husband Kevin of Tekamah, NE; son, James R. Coffman of Red Oak, IA; six grandchildren: Justin Hossle, Jenni Hossle, Jamie Hossle, Kris Breedlove, Andrew Breedlove and Randy Breedlove; brother, William Parmenter and wife Lois of Farmerville, LA; sister, Sandra Davis of Lincoln, AR; brother-in-law, Leslie Coffman and wife Eula Belle of Omaha, NE; nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives, along with a host of friends. May God bless her memory and give strength to those who mourn. Mrs. Coffman was cremated and a Memorial Visitation will be held Wednesday evening, July 11 at 7:00 P.M. at First United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall in Red Oak. Memorials to Alzheimer's Association, Red Oak Good Samaritan Center, Heartland Hospice or Montgomery County Court of Honor. Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
