Doris Lorraine Larson, the daughter of Frederick and Katherine (Ross) Yokel was born September 1, 1926, near Friend, Nebraska, in Saline County. She passed away on Tuesday, June 1, 2021, at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital, Red Oak, Iowa, at the age of 94 years and 9 months.
Doris was raised in the Friend, Nebraska area. She was confirmed at the First United Methodist Church and graduated from Friend High School in 1943. In 1945, she moved to Red Oak, Iowa, to live with her Aunt Ella. On October 10, 1954, Doris was united in marriage to Milan Edgar Louis Larson at the First United Methodist Church, Red Oak. Over the years, Doris was employed at the Murphy Calendar Company, Spicer Insurance and Income Tax Agency, Montgomery County Farm Bureau, and then retired after 25 years from the Montgomery County Extension Service. Doris received the Friend of 4-H Award for her many years of service to the 4-H program in Montgomery County, and in 1994, the Montgomery County Hall of Fame Award for Merit of Service. In 2010, she received the Iowa 4-H Hall of Fame Award. Doris was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Montgomery County Memorial Hospital Auxiliary where she worked in the Lemon Tree Gift Shop, and for years helped with the American Cancer Society's Daffodil Days. Doris enjoyed traveling with bus tours, all kinds of music, reading, gardening, cooking, and loved her dog, Blondie.
Doris was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Milan Larson on December 4, 1993; brothers and sister-in-law: Robert Yokel and Ralph Yokel and his wife, Ruby; and nephew, Rodney Yokel.
Doris is survived by her son, Lambert Larson and his wife, Sandra of Gretna, NE; grandson, Louis Larson of Browns Mills, NJ; two step granddaughters: Melissa (Mike) Miller and their children, Taylor Marie and Connor Shaver of Omaha, NE, and Stephanie (Jake) Waggoner of Elkhorn, NE and their children, Ian and Elsie Lynn; great-niece and nephew, Katie and Chris of Omaha, NE; other relatives and friends.
