Dorotha Elaine Douthit Peterson, the daughter of Lawrence and Alice Brooks Ingram was born February 15, 1928 in New Market, Iowa. She passed away on Sunday, April 1, 2012 at the Red Oak Rehab & Care Center, Red Oak, Iowa. Dorotha grew up in the New Market and Gravity communities. She was united in marriage to Robert E. Douthit on November 8, 1952 in Franklin, Indiana. They lived at Braddyville, Gravity, Shenandoah, Essex and then moved to Red Oak in the early 1970's. Dorotha helped many people clean their homes. She raised and sold Rhode Island Red Chickens for many years. After the death of Robert in l993, she was married to Arvid Peterson on May 16, l996 in Clarinda, Iowa. Dorotha was preceded in death by her parents, first husband, Robert Douthit on November 10, 1993; three brothers: Alvin, Eldon and Lowell and sister, Marjorie. Dorotha is survived by her husband, Arvid Peterson of Red Oak, IA; children: Robert Link and wife Darla of New Market, IA; Carolyn Kay Johnson of Thornton, IA; Donald Douthit and wife Kim of Clarinda, IA; Donna Lilly and husband Seaton of Clarinda, IA; Kenneth Douthit and special friend Christina Volquartsen of Red Oak, IA; and David Douthit and wife Tina of Neosho, MO; 15 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren, other relatives and friends. Graveside Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 5 in Evergreen Cemetery, Red Oak, Iowa Family and friends may gather at the cemetery.
