Obituary

Dorothy Winnifred Beam, the daughter of Sidney and Hazel (Dickerson) Beam was born on March 15, 1925 in Mills County, Iowa. She passed away on Tuesday, September 4, 2018 at the Good Samaritan Society, Red Oak, Iowa at the age of 93 years, 5 months and 17 days.

Dorothy attended school at Strahan, Iowa until the fifth grade. Her parents moved to a farm west of Coburg, where she attended a country school until eighth grade. Her parents then moved into Coburg, and Dorothy attended and graduated from Coburg High School in 1942. For 13 years, she was employed at Union Carbide Battery Company in Red Oak. At the age of 36, she gave her heart and life to Jesus and from that time on, she chose to serve the Lord in whatever ministry he led her into. As a result, she moved to Three Hills, Alberta, Canada where she worked 8 years as a secretary for the Japan Evangelical Mission. On her return to Iowa, Dorothy worked for the Good Shepherd Mission Headquarters at Fontenelle, Iowa, and following, for the Daystar Ministries in Minnesota, Wisconsin and Indiana, where she served as a cook and baker. Dorothy moved back to Red Oak and was employed as a cook at Good Samaritan Society for 8 years. She returned to Wisconsin, spending 2 years at the YWAM Ministries, as a cook and kitchen manager. In 1988, Dorothy retired and made her home at Acorn Acres in Red Oak. She joined the Assembly of God church and served as their secretary and treasurer for several years, along with being coordinator of the elementary age girls, Missionettes program. While living at Acorn Acres, Dorothy served 4 years as secretary of the Resident Council, was appointed as an advisor to the Resident Council and led several Bible Studies. Although she had no children of her own, she enjoyed the love and fellowship of her many spiritual children whom God brought her way.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Alice Johnson and husband, Raymond; brother-in-law, Randy Laabs; sister-in-law, Ann Beam and nephew, Mike Beam.

Dorothy is survived by her sister, Altha Laabs of Shenandoah, IA; brother, Leo Beam of Tipton, IA; nieces and nephews: Roger Laabs, Jeff Laabs, Greg Laabs, Donna Hansen, Sue Beam, Scott Beam and Jon Beam; other relatives and friends.

Monday, September 10, 2018 at 11:00 a.m.

At Assembly of God Church, Red Oak, IA

Burial in Utterback Cemetery, south of Riverton, Iowa

Rev. Ted Brown, Officiating

Viewing and Visitation will be on Monday, September 10th at the Red Oak Assembly of God Church from 10:00 a.m. until service time at 11:00 a.m.
