Obituary

Dorothy Faye Bruce, the daughter of John H. and Edna E. McFarland Damewood, was born June 11, 1930 in Adams County, Iowa. She passed away Wednesday, August 25, 2010 at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital, Red Oak, Iowa at the age of 80 years, 2 months and 14 days. Dorothy's early years were lived in Adams County, Red Oak and then Atlantic. The family moved back to Red Oak, where Dorothy attended Junior and Senior High School. She was united in marriage to Gerald T. Bruce on June 11, l946 in Hiawatha, Kansas. They lived a short time at Ottumwa, Iowa and Omaha, Nebraska. They then made Red Oak their home, where they have lived for over 60 years. Dorothy worked for the Union Carbide Battery Company for 30 years. Following her retirement, she worked in the dietary department at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital. Dorothy loved flowers and raising her garden. She canned most of the fruits and vegetables she grew. Dorothy enjoyed shopping and always had time for her family and friends. Dorothy was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of Red Oak. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; 4 brothers: Duane Damewood, John Damewood, Ronnie Clark and Donnie Clark; 2 sisters: Sharlene Burg and Opal Pierce. Dorothy is survived by her husband of 64 years: Gerald Bruce of Red Oak, IA; son, Allen Bruce and wife Elaine of Stanton, IA; daughters: Cindy Pierson and husband Carlos of Hastings, IA; Alisa Rumery and husband Randy of Swisher, IA; and Marcia Bond of Red Oak, IA; 11 grandchildren: Scott & Danelle Bruce of Red Oak, IA; Todd Bruce & Lisa Douthit of Red Oak, IA; Ryan Bruce of Omaha, NE; Dawn & Mark Meyer of Kearney, MO; Dani Haberl of Carroll, IA; Jeff & Shantelle Vohs of Glenwood, IA; Dax & Stacey Rose of Grayslake, IL; Cody Rose & Brook Kelsey of Cedar Rapids, IA; Jeb Bond of Red Oak, IA; Tyler Bond of Glenwood, IA; and Ali & Chad Ewing of Oakland, IA; 23 great-grandchildren; brother: Jack Clark and wife Shirley of Amarillo, TX; sisters: Anna Marie Cleland of Red Oak, IA and Elnora Josephson of Red Oak, IA; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.
