Dorothy Mae Edie, the daughter of Kelly Ray and Carrie Margaret Buck Carnes was born July 28, 1921 in Tabor, Iowa. She died on Saturday, April 23, 2011 at the Red Oak Rehab & Care Center, Red Oak, Iowa at the age of 89 years, 8 months and 26 days. Dorothy was the fifth of twelve children and a twin to her brother Dick. She graduated from Tabor High School in the class of 1941. Dorothy secretly married Carl Edie on June 3, 1940 in Rock Port, Missouri. The marriage was secret so that Dorothy could finish high school in Tabor. They lived in the Emerson, Malvern and Hastings area before making their home in Stanton in 1948, where she lived most of her life. Dorothy worked as a nurse's aide at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital for many years, and also as a Home Health aide later in life. An avid seamstress and cook, Dorothy also loved going dancing on Saturday nights with Carl to hear area country bands and enjoy time with friends. She was also a longtime member of the Worthwhile Club in Stanton and enjoyed many coffee parties there. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, Kelly and Carrie Carnes; husband, Carl Edie on January 24, 1988; sisters: Edna Severn, Bessie Severn, Ruth Ann Chaney and Francis Keeton; and brothers: Louis Carnes, Kenneth Carnes, Dick Carnes, Robert Carnes, Walter Carnes and Dennis Carnes. Dorothy is survived by her son, Larry Edie and wife Venita of Red Oak, IA; daughters: Carla Rydberg and husband Don of Essex, IA and Sandy Hansen and husband Don of Shenandoah, IA; six grandchildren: Jeff Olson and wife Wendy of Overland Park, KS; Doug Olson and wife Patty of Syracuse, UT; Cheri Lass and husband Tim of Urbandale, IA; Jennifer Elarton and husband Randy of Red Oak, IA; Melissa Ringgenberg and husband Jason of Overland Park, KS and Kelly Edie of Red Oak, IA; 15 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; brother, Kelly "Hank" Carnes Jr. and wife Audrey of Winter Park, FL; and sisters-in-law: Donna Carnes of Coppell, TX; Nellie Carnes of Springfield, MO and Lucille Van Syoc of Bellevue, NE; along with nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Celebration of Life service will be held Tuesday, April 26, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. at the First Christian Church, Red Oak, Iowa A private burial with the family present will be held in the North Grove Cemetery, Emerson, IA prior to the Celebration of Life service.
