Dorothy Ann Focht, the daughter of Alden and Mildred Peterson Nelson was born April 4, 1928 in Red Oak, Iowa. She died on Tuesday, October 9, 2007 at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital, Red Oak, Iowa at the age of 79 years, 6 months and 5 days. Dorothy lived her early years and youth in Stanton, where she was baptized at Mamrelund Lutheran Church. Her freshman year of high school, the family moved to Red Oak. Dorothy graduated from Red Oak High School in 1946 and during her senior year was honored as the Homecoming Queen. Dorothy was united in marriage to Homer Focht on February 2, 1947 in Red Oak. At different times in Dorothy's career, she worked for Thomsen-Bergren Hardware, Spurgeons, and Cole's Jewelry. Dorothy also helped her husband, Homer with their business, Focht Construction Company. She handled all the bookkeeping and accounting duties. When Homer was on site doing dirt work with the bulldozer, she always packed him a gourmet lunch, which was much appreciated. Dorothy enjoyed gardening, growing flowers, and was an avid reader. She was a wonderful cook and enjoyed cooking the wild game and fish they would bring home. Dorothy was always up to date on current events with world and local news. They enjoyed traveling all over the United States. She loved to fly in their plane, with Homer as pilot, and "Dorothy as an A-1 navigator." Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents. Dorothy is survived by her husband, Homer Focht of Red Oak, IA; daughter, Barbara Wennstedt of Hastings, Iowa; grandsons: Matt Wennstedt of Omaha, NE; and Justin Wennstedt and wife Cindi of Omaha, NE; sisters-in-law: Laurena Dunn of Nodaway, IA; Geraldine Focht of Stuart, IA; other relatives and friends.
