Obituary

Dorothy Mae Hale, the daughter of Homer and Minnie (Royer) McBride was born September 7, 1935 on a farm near Essex in Page County, Iowa. She passed away on Tuesday, September 11, 2018 at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital, Red Oak, Iowa at the age of 83 years and 4 days.
Dorothy was raised in Essex and graduated from Essex High School in 1954. She attended Stewarts School of Cosmetology in Council Bluffs and graduated in 1956. Dorothy worked in Shenandoah as a hair stylist from 1956 to 1958. She loved to roller skate and this is where she met her future husband. Dorothy was united in marriage to Arthur Mervin Hale on January 18, 1958 at Essex, Iowa. In 1958, they made Red Oak their home and Dorothy worked for several beauty shops. For the next 35 years, she worked in the shop at her home and enjoyed making visits to customers' homes to style their hair. Dorothy was a member of the First Covenant Church in Red Oak, where she sang in the choir and helped wherever needed. Dorothy loved her family and spending time with them. She was a "people person" and enjoyed visiting with people at family reunions, church or at any gathering.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Mervin on April 15, 1995.
Dorothy is survived by her two sons: Norman Hale of Red Oak, IA and Kevin Hale and wife, Stephanie of Red Oak, IA; five grandchildren: Mandy Knapp, Jennifer (Daniel) Wright, Marissa Sherman, Erica Sherman and Lauren Thurman; and six great-grandchildren; other relatives and many friends.

At First Covenant Church, Red Oak, Iowa
Burial at the Essex Cemetery, Essex, Iowa
Rev. Alan Dean, Officiating
Visitation with the family on Thursday evening from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. at Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home
