Dorothy Pauline Peterson Lantz Honett, age 82, entered eternal life July 19, 2007. Dorothy was born to Paul Frederick and Edna Myrtle Cecelia Sederburg Peterson in Scott Township, Montgomery County, Iowa on her grandfather Fred Peterson's farm. She received her elementary education in one-room schoolhouses, including Goldenrod School. After graduation from Stanton High School, she married Levi Lantz, June 2, 1944 at Mamreland Lutheran Church in Stanton, Iowa. Following Levi's military service, they farmed at several locations in Montgomery and Page Counties. Rearing her 5 children Cary, Chris, Nancy, Daniel, and Mary Beth was her number one earthly priority. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, "neighboring", family fun and travel. Her children felt very loved. Her greatest love, however, was knowing God and making Him known. Her personal faith and testimony of that love for Christ expanded when she and Levi experienced God's amazing grace and love in the midst of tragedy---their daughter Nancy died from mumps encephalitis in early childhood. Nancy's wish was "that everyone would know my Jesus." This pivotal moment in Dorothy's life and the life of her family has been used by God as a springboard for spreading the Good News of salvation to scores of folks through her years of Sunday school teaching, participation in Ladies Aid and Missionary Society, leading Bible studies, speaking to church groups, nursing home residents, comforting those in grief, and particularly in the lives of her children. Following 46 years of marriage and Levi's death on July 18, 1990, from lymphoma, Dorothy married Howard Honett of Thiensville, WI., December 31, 1993 at the Alliance Bible Church, Mequon, WI. The Lantz and Honett blended families included new step-children & their families which Dorothy welcomed as her own. Howard and Dorothy spent nearly 14 years enjoying shared ministry including 3 short term mission trips to Honduras, local ministry at Eastbrook Church, Child Evangelism Fellowship, and in the lives of a great number of individuals and groups in the Milwaukee, WI area. Dorothy wanted to "love people into the kingdom of God". Her impact on people's lives was evidenced in her last days in the hospital by the overwhelming testimonies of visitors and phone callers. She was ushered peacefully into the presence of her Heavenly Father surrounded by prayers, expressed love, and singing. Her final minutes were bathed with the lyrics of 'How Great Thou Art' and 'I Will Enter His Gates With Thanksgiving'. Dorothy is survived by her husband, Howard Honett of Grafton, WI; sons: Cary Lantz and wife Janet of Clarks Summit, PA; Chris Lantz and wife Lois of Iowa City, IA; Daniel Lantz and wife Jane of Clarinda, IA; daughter, Mary Beth Embke and husband Dennis of Farmington, MN; grandchildren: Sean Lantz and wife Kathy; Megan Lantz; Stephanie Lantz; Nicole Lantz; and Julia Lantz; great-grandchildren: Emma and Lucy Lantz; step-sons: Steven Honett and wife Jane of Plano, TX; Stan Honett and wife Sandy of Green Bay, WI; step-daughters: Sheryl Magelssen and husband Paul of Fosston, MN; Sharleen Trantham of Garland, TX; Shirley Haworth and husband Kevin of Guadalajara, Mexico; 17 step-grandchildren and 15 step great-grandchildren; sister, Marie Pendgraft of Spencer, IA; brothers: LeRoy Peterson of rural Red Oak, IA; Paul Allen Peterson of rural Red Oak, IA; Carrol David Peterson and wife Lois of Princess Anne, MD and Lawrence "Larry" Peterson and wife Martha of Sioux Falls, SD; other relatives and a host of friends.
