Dorothy B. Odson, the daughter of Ray and Opal (Strain) Garey was born May 9, 1920 at Nodaway, Iowa. She passed away on Tuesday, October 15, 2013 at the Good Samaritan Society, Red Oak, Iowa at the age of 93 years, 5 months and 6 days. Dorothy was raised near Villisca, Iowa before the family moved to the Elliott, Iowa area. She graduated in 1937 from Elliott High School. Following graduation, Dorothy moved to Davenport, Iowa and worked for the A & P Grocery Store. Dorothy was united in marriage to Glenn H. Odson on February 17, 1946 in Davenport, Iowa. In 1955, Dorothy and Glenn moved to Lenox, Iowa, where they owned and operated a dry cleaning and laundry business for 32 years. During that time, she also worked in a Lenox dress shop. In 1988, they moved to Red Oak, later moved to Corning, and in 2009 returned to Red Oak. Dorothy was a member of Strand Lutheran Church and a past member of the American Legion Auxiliary. She was an avid reader, and enjoyed sewing and ceramics. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers: Robert and Bill Garey; and three sisters: Maxine Haffner, Pauline Wheeler and Lola Odson. Dorothy is survived by her husband of 67 years, Glenn H. Odson of Red Oak, IA; daughter, Karen DeGeorge and husband Tom, of Omaha, NE; sister, Virginia Simet and husband Tom, of Des Moines, IA; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
