Dwaine Edward Jipsen, the son of Luin and Zilda Coons Jipsen was born December 19, 1933 in Cass County, Iowa. He passed away after a short illness on Tuesday, September 29, 2009 at the Immanuel Medical Center, Omaha, Nebraska at the age of 75 years, 9 months and 10 days. Dwaine was raised in southern Cass County, near the Ebert corner until the age of 11 at which time, the family moved to a farm near Wales, IA. While in high school, Dwaine participated in baseball and basketball. He graduated from Wales-Lincoln High School in l951. Following graduation, Dwaine began farming in the Wales area. From 1952 to 1960, he served in the Iowa Army National Guard. Dwaine was united in marriage to Ada Bird on October 30, 1955 at the Wales Presbyterian Church. As a farmer, Dwaine loved the land and was active in soil conservation, so in l980 he started the Jipsen Construction Company. He enjoyed "dirt work" projects and had built many terraces in the surrounding area. Through the years, Dwaine had been a supporter of the Montgomery County Fair, always helping with the swine show. In 2008, he was honored by being inducted into the Iowa 4-H Hall of Fame. In his younger days, Dwaine enjoyed playing slow pitch softball and bowling. Lately, he enjoyed helping cook with his companion Shirley Straight at Shirley's Café in Emerson. Dwaine was a member of the Wales Presbyterian Church and the Land Improvement Contractors of America. Dwaine was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Evelyn Poore; and grandchildren: Jared and Nicole Jipsen. Dwaine is survived by children: Gary Jipsen and wife Darnett of Red Oak, IA; Kenneth Jipsen of Emerson, IA; Bryce Jipsen and wife Patti of Emerson, IA; Jody Avery and fiancé David Parris of Emerson, IA; companion, Shirley Straight of Emerson, IA; 13 grandchildren: Kellie Jo Magill and husband Nick, Jenna Gravett and husband Shannon, James Jipsen and fiancé Jessica Wilcoxson, Macayla Jipsen, Dalton Jipsen, Tera Avery and friend Logun Hughes, Jake Avery, Mike Parsley and wife Kayla, Mark Parsley and wife Chrystal, Chrys Echternach and husband Jeremy, Jeremy Dilocker, Mallory Dilocker, and Dalton Dukes; 9 great-grandchildren; and sister: Judy Jean Jipsen of Evergreen, CO; nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.
