Earl Milo Eugene Gene Carpenter, the son of Jesse "Earl" and Leona Rae Peg Porter Carpenter was born on February 13, 1928 in Red Oak, Iowa. He passed away on Monday, June 9, 2008 at Creston Nursing & Rehab, Creston, Iowa at the age of 80 years, 3 months and 27 days. Earl was raised in Red Oak alongside six sisters and three brothers. On October 16, 1948 Earl was united in marriage to Golda May Randolph in Red Oak, Iowa. Earl served in the U.S. Army, during the Korean War in the early 1950's. Following his military service, Earl and Golda made their home in California. Earl was a painting contractor. He contracted many jobs for Hamm's Brewery Company. Earl was a people person. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends, playing cards, visiting around the kitchen table or buying and selling his "treasures". Earl also had a passion for fishing and hunting. It was always a special time when he and Steve would go fishing. He loved his wife and three children dearly and taught them by example true love and happiness. After retiring, Earl and Golda moved to Creston, Iowa. Earl was preceded in death by his parents and five sisters: Charlotte Rush, Bonnie Taber, Joan Coy, Wanda Binns and Lois Grasty. Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Golda Carpenter of Creston, IA; children: Linda and husband Steve Bergadine of Creston, IA; Steven Carpenter and wife Janelle of Snohomish, WA; and Diane and husband Mike Lauffer of Orient, IA; 16 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; sister, Donna and husband Bill Novak of Wahoo, NE; brothers: Dewey Carpenter and wife Darlene of Red Oak, IA; Howard Carpenter and wife Karen of Independence, MO; and Bernard Lee Binns and wife Jerrie of Red Oak, IA; other relatives and many friends.
