Obituary

Edith Virginia Bergantzel, the daughter of A.C. and Dollie (Stewart) Frink was born on February 21, 1922 near Malvern, Iowa. She passed away on January 23, 2018 at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital in Red Oak, Iowa at the age of 95 years, 11 months and 2 days.

Edith was raised near Malvern and graduated from Malvern High School in 1939. She was united in marriage to Jess Elmer Bergantzel on February 26, 1941 near Hastings, Iowa and they lived most of their life together farming near Henderson, Iowa where she worked as a book keeper at the community elevator. Together, Edith and Elmer had three sons: Robert Lee, Roger Stewart and Albion Joe.  Following Elmer's death on July 7, 1984, Edith continued to live on the farm and was married to Don Wirth from May 4, 1986 until his death on April 12, 2002. Edith moved to Arlington Place in Red Oak, Iowa in 2010 where she enjoyed the comradery with residents and staff.  During her life, Edith was an avid bowler, enjoyed playing cards with family and friends, bird watching and flowers. She was a member of the Henderson Christian Church and a member of the Legion Auxiliary. Edith was preceded in death by her parents; husbands; son, Albion; step-son, Lynn Wirth; sister, Irene Schoening; and brothers: C.A. "Babe" Frink, Bob Frink, Marion Frink, A.K. "Mike" Frink and Harvey Frink.
Edith is survived by her sons and their wives, Robert and Barbara Bergantzel of Council Bluffs; Roger and Harriet Bergantzel of Henderson; step-daughter and her husband, Carleane and Charles Husz of Carson; step-son and his wife, Donald "Neal" and Sandy Wirth of Kewanee, Illinois; grandchildren: Todd and Vanessa Bergantzel of Council Bluffs, Jim and Nancy Bergantzel of Castle Rock, CO, Jess and Heather Bergantzel of Mechanicsville, Jill and Jason Matter of Denver, CO, Brooke Bergantzel and fiancé Thomas Schmolke of Maplewood, MN, 10 great-grandchildren, 8 great-great grandchildren; one brother-in-law, Lyle Bergantzel of Wolbach, NE; numerous other cherished relatives and friends.

Visitation with the family will be held Friday evening, January 26th from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home.
