Edna Frances Taylor, the daughter of John and Florence Heckman Miner, was born March 24, 1920 in Montgomery County, Iowa west of Red Oak. She passed away on Sunday, April 15, 2012 at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital, Red Oak, Iowa at the age of 92 years and 22 days. Edna was raised on the Miner farm northwest of Red Oak. In 1937, she graduated from Red Oak High School. Edna was united in marriage to Maurice H. Taylor on December 24, 1938 in rural Red Oak. Edna and Maurice made their home on the Taylor family farm 6 miles north of Red Oak. They lived on this farm until 1972, when they moved into Red Oak. Edna worked for the Powell School and later, the Murphy Memorial Hospital. She was an active member of the Red Oak Monday Club, and for many years cooked for the events held at the Hysham House. Edna was a member of the Stratton Methodist Church. She was an avid reader and enjoyed quilting, crocheting and needlepoint, along with growing flowers. Edna liked playing Scrabble and was always up for a good game. She treasured her family and the company of her cat, Fluffy. Edna was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Maurice on January 21, 1998; son, Major Lawrence H. Taylor; and brother, Paul Miner. Edna is survived by her five children: Darwin Taylor and wife Pamela of Dunn, NC; Stephen Taylor and wife Linda of Papillion, NE; Judith Guzman and husband Philip of Augusta, KS; Lyndon Taylor and wife Jacque of Carson, IA; and Rick Taylor and wife Sue of Red Oak, IA; daughter-in-law, Mary Taylor of Weslaco, TX; 16 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; brother, William "Bud" Miner and wife Delores of Red Oak, IA; and nieces, along with other relatives and friends. Funeral Service will be held Friday, April 20, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at Stratton Methodist Church, northeast of Red Oak Burial will take place in Evergreen Cemetery, Red Oak Rev. Jerry Hoff, Officiating Visitation with the family present Thursday evening from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home Memorials may be given to the Stratton Methodist Church or Red Oak Hysham House Monday Club.
